Water's Edge
Denison | Geihe | James | Park | Pfeifer
Letters written underneath a midnight sky
cast into the wind, fallen to the tide
she was but the only thing his heart burned for
returning to a home port seems so foreign now
Had it been so long?
her face he'd forgotten
but rushing through the gate,
finding not a trace
and searching in vain;
just an empty space inside
By the dockside, bitter in the cold day
thoughts of warmer times won1t melt the pain away
seen everything the world has to offer, thought she was by his side
how could he have known? Every moment just another lie
By the water's edge he stood
like a stranger
and gazing at the sea,
now he seemed to be
alone in time,
just drifting with the tide
And deep in the night by the water's edge
was there nothing left for him now?
was it only the thought of her
that kept him going?
There's more than just holding on now
find the strength to keep moving
and when the morning comes
he must start over
And when the sunlight breaks the night, he awakens
Still in the morning as the day overtakes him;
Once as were the words that gave him all, he needed to hold on
Now he raises himself to his knees on his own.
Strength from within him that led the way of his calling, from the other side
By the water's edge he stood straight to face another day.
